The Biblioteca de Catalunya welcomes world experts in digital preservation

A hundred representatives coming from the US and Europe will meet in Barcelona in a congress dedicated to design cooperative actions on digital preservation. The Conference “Aligning National Approaches to Digital Preservation II: An Action Assembly” (ANADP 2013) is taking place from November 18th to 20th at the Biblioteca de Catalunya, where the representatives from 16 countries will discuss about cooperative strategies to ensure permanent access to digital documentation.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya will host, next 18 to 20th November, the “Aligning National Approaches to Digital Preservation II” Action Assembly. This event will assemble digital preservation leaders from a variety of backgrounds (including national libraries, academic libraries and archives, research centres, public libraries, information science/management programs, archives, corporations, and funding agencies) to carry out international alignment activities to support the preservation of our collective digital memory. -
The IIPC renews its website

The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC), of which the Biblioteca de Catalunya is a member with its web archive project PADICAT (Digital Heritage of Catalonia), has a new website. The new site, available at http://www.netpreserve.org, is the meeting point for the main projects and international initiatives on digital preservation and web archiving.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya over the 200.000 harvested web pages at PADICAT repository

The web archive settled at the PADICAT (Digital Heritage of Catalonia) has exceeded the 200.000 versions of web pages on the Catalan Internet, until reach 229.396 harvestings of 57.993 web pages contained at the digital repository of the Biblioteca de Catalunya. A total of 340 million files, occupying 13 terabytes of space, that are preserved indefinitely at the Web Archive of Catalonia.

The number of harvested sites of the Catalan Internet has been doubled, up to reach 22.931 digital resources
The Biblioteca de Catalunya (BC) has published the information relative to its repository, PADICAT (Digital Heritage of Catalonia), created to guarantee the preservation of the Catalan digital resources published on the Internet. In march 2010, it preserves 22.931 harvestings from 17.063 web sites, occupying a space of storage of approximately 7,7 Terabytes from a total amount of 186 million files.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya has selected and harvested 1.532 digital resources on the Internet related to the 657 museums and open collections of Catalonia, with the aim of preserving its content and to guarantee its permanent access.
