The Biblioteca de Catalunya (National Library of Catalonia) and The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) have signed a collaboration agreement through which the UPC joins the PADICAT project. This is the 200th entity to join the group of companies, local governments, professional associations and associations from any kind which have become a member in the project that the BC is managing, with collaboration of CESCA (Centre de Supercomputació de Catalunya) and the Secretaria de Telecomunicacions i Societat de la Informació de la Generalitat de Catalunya . The aim of the project is to acquire, preserve and make available knowledge and information on the Internet of the day for coming generations and to create the Web archive of Catalonia. With this agreement, the number of institutions associated to the PADICAT has doubled in a little more than 2 months, since last 5th of March the Theatre Company “El Tricicle” signed the 100th agreement.

The PADICAT project is based on 3 working lines: the massive compilation of digital resources published in Internet, like the websites with the domain .CAT; the promotion of lines of research into certain events in the Catalan public life, like the campaign on the Internet during the last elections to the Parliament of Catalonia; and the impulse to the cooperation with the institutions representing Catalan civil society, in order to ensure that the different versions of their digital productions get incorporated systematically to the PADICAT.

In order to drive forward jointly the Patrimoni Digital de Catalunya (Digital Heritage of Catalonia), along with the UPC, the BC has signed collaboration agreements with other 199 institutions that support the project, the most recent being the municipal councils of Parets del Vallès, Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Les Franqueses del Vallès, and Lloret de Mar; the Professional Associations of Delineants de Tarragona, Logopedes de Catalunya, Il·lustre Col·legi d’Advocats de Manresa, and Col·legi Oficial d’Odontòlegs i Estomatòlegs de Catalunya; cultural entities like Museu de la Mediterrània, Publicacions de l’Abadia de Montserrat and the Institut del Teatre; companies like Simon Holding S.L. and Companyia d’Aigües de Sabadell, SA; universities like Abat Oliba CEU and Escola Superior de Disseny ESDi; and many more.

Due to this agreement with the PADICAT these 200 institutions ensure the digital preservation of their websites and their inclusion in the Digital Heritage of Catalonia, which at the same time allows open and permanent access to the resources that are the result of the knowledge and the expression of 21st Century developers, be they cultural, educational, scientific or administrative digital resources.
