PADICAT prepares for local elections

16-04-2007

The Biblioteca de Catalunya (National Library of Catalonia), through the Padicat project (Digital Heritage of Catalonia), will carry out a special monitoring of the information appeared on the internet about the campaign for the coming local elections, on May 27th. This information will be included in the Library repository, as was done with the last elections to the Catalan Parliament. Specifically, the compilation is predicted of more than 1.600 digital resources from 450 websites, that will allow us to understand, in the future, the evolution of the electoral campaign in a selection of 50 Catalan municipalities. The repository will allow permanent and open access to the candidates' blogs, political parties and digital local media webs.

This special monitoring will be possible thanks to the doubling of Padicat’s collection capabilities, through the acquisition of two more Proliant DL360 G4p nodes, added to the other two that were operating at the premises of CESCA, for the tasks of collecting, processing and providing access to the digital resources of Catalonia.

PADICAT has the aim of preserving the web pages once these have been upadeted or just disappeared.
